In 2004 the then NEDBANK Sani2C began as a humble event involving just 247 teams. Today 12 years later more than 2200 teams partake in the world's largest Mountain Bike Stage Race known as the KAP Sani2C.

A multi day paired Mountain Bike Event that attracts the interest of both local and international competitors along with associated sponsorship and media interest, has generated millions of Rands for projects in the communities through which it passes.
Some important objectives of the event are raising funds for community education and the growth of local tourism and hospitality industries with job creation for the surrounding communities.

Projects are self-driven and beneficiaries are highly motivated and passionate about the event.
During the history of the event more than R23 million has been distributed to the various beneficiaries of the Sani2C.
Further to this, an estimated R4 million is spent by entrants purely on accommodation (pre and post the events) in the Underberg and Scottburgh areas alone.
KwaZulu-Natal tourism estimates that Sani2C generates over R35 million for the region and a further R8 million is generated for the country by international competitors.

In addition, the building of permanent race villages has created job opportunities for the neighbouring rural people in an area where employment is desperately needed. The projects at Jolivet and Glancarin have so far created more than 10 000 man days. In many cases locals have been up skilled and employed as builders, tillers, carpenters and plumbers.

Founder of the KAP Sani2C “Farmer Glen” has composed a variety of well-groomed network of trails from district roads to fast flowing single track through green valleys filled with dairy cows.
As one of the most prestigious events on the calendar and with over 1000 teams on the waiting list, a KAP Sani2C entry is one of the most sought after of its kind.

As riders embark on their 268km journey from the Southern Drakensburg to the Indian Ocean, they are reminded that the event is as much about the journey that got them to the start as it is a journey exploring the mountain bike nirvana and uplifting our country.

Excert from Sani2C
